My entry for PiT October contest

Soon after knowing this month contest topic "TOYS", I swear myself need to give a tough competition, did lot of googling about how to photograph toys, lighting techniques, setting backgrounds so on and on...

You know one thing I don’t have a camera except one in my mobile :)
Thanks to my friend srini who take me to many shops in his car, and waits with lot of patience while I’m surfing through the displays and enquiring about the features and specifications.

After a loooong search I zeroed in on Panasonic Lumix TZ6 and Velbon tripod (I ll tell you later why I choose it.)
Ok coming to the point... (I know you bored by the above :))
By the inspiration of photographs from here and here, I decided to photograph a toy in action, so I purchased a model like the same.
But the real problem came is lighting and background. Doesn’t have enough lit in my room. Also it’s not possible for me to shoot at day time. Since I tried to make a set in room with help of my friend Black T-shirt as background, Stones and grasses from nearby lawn.

Chandrayaan-I may have suffered technical setbacks within a year of its launch

Chandrayaan -1, India's first lunar probe, is facing a serious technical issue that might jeopardize the entire mission and bring it to a premature end, according to reports.

S. Satish, a spokesperson from ISRO, has confirmed that the Star Sensors aboard the craft have failed. These are the same sensors, which help the crafts orientation towards the moon. With these having failed, the Chandrayaan is using its antenna pointing mechanism along with the onboard gyroscopes to over come the challenge. The officials, however, are unsure as to how long the spacecraft can hold on to this mode and continue functioning.

The Chandrayaan was actually designed to operate normally for two years. With this issue, the life span of the craft might just be reduced. The ISRO spokesperson has, however, added that the craft itself continues to perform normally and that almost all the data that was required from the mission has already been collected. Additionally, the current snag does not affect the information-grabbing capacity of the probe. So, the mission is pretty much on, even now.

The Chandrayaan made headlines last year on Oct. 22 when it became first lunar probe to be launched by India. The successor to the Chandrayaan 1, the Chandrayaan 2 is already in the works and will be launched in 2013.

My first Post Production

During last month when am surfing internet, I come across such a wonderful site http://digital-photography-school.com/. Within minutes the site impressed me with many tutorials about photography and Post productions. Soon I registered myself as a Member and begin posting my photographs at various sections/forums. The forum is really encouraging and brings out many new ideas from us. Especially the tutorials section teaches u all the nuances in photography. Recently I have posted one of my photographs after post production.
Here it is...
The original one...
I click this shot nearly a year before in my home. Grandma seems to be focused too much on her work. She not even care about what am doing around her.

Am satisfied with the result until yesterday. After seeing many photographs and tutorials on DPS I too prepared to do a post production. I decided to do a simpler one. Then I choose this photograph and edited in Picasa3. Just added more contrast and adjust the brightness. But there is no much difference so I converted it into a black and white... Wow I done it... I done it... seems to be treasure hunt for me... beautiful portrait. (Actually u has to tell this...)
Then just added a Black border in Photoshop seems to be pretty.
Posted it today on DPS. Comments are really encouraging...
If u are interested please visit the below link...
Do u have any comments to improve it? jus leave below... Hope to try more on Post productions...

Are u a addict to news on AIR (All India Radio)?

Here is the good news news for you. Usually we people are very lazy to browse for the news site to sit and read the news about our country and region. we feel better if anyone read those for us!!!

Yes now you can hear your regional news no matter where ever you are.
All India Radio has Lauched a wesite http://www.newsonair.com

Where all the news are posted as text to read and in .mp3 formats to listen.
The news which are aired in AIR and FM Gold channels are posted here in English, Hindi  and in regional languages.
Regional language bulletins are available in two options that is aired from Delhi (National service Division) and aired from local radio station (like chennai and trichy).

To listen to AIR news Bulletins originating from NSD,Delhi

To listen to AIR news Bulletins from Regional Stations

The effort made is need to be appreciated and the sound quality is OK. the file sizes are also small enough (within 2MB).  But it is sure the sound quality of the file has to improved.

Hey... one more thing actually the time to hear the news is very important as like the time to have food. For me its better to hear while getting ready to office... (nice time na). Good to hear the familar sound "Good morning! Iam sukanya balakrishnan... The Headlines" in the morning.

Its pretty good for people like me who are all far away from india had no option to know the current news about our country.

From Doha, Qatar

Hmmmm....  I didn't expect this much time will took to publish my first entry of this year 2009.
What to do, recession hit me too. No salary hike for the past 1.5 yr, No job security, Salary reduction, No projects, That feel when I was assigned to a new role as Team Lead from Process Designer. shhhhhh oh my god.
Not able to decide what to do and how to do...
At last I had posted my resignation on Jan 19th and luckily relived from duty on that day itself... and now I am in Qatar, Thanks to my friend Srinivasan for the reference. New country, new job, new field, new experience, new peoples around me (except my friend Srinivasan)....
Started on 29th January by Srilankan Airways. (Trichy-Colombo-Doha )
Checked in by 7.00am at Trichy airport and board the flight by 8.45 and departure at 9.15 am.

Srilankan at Trichi Airport
Nice to see my country from sky... beautiful greeny landscape.... and spectacular blue sky above the clouds...
Above the cloud below the sky
Reached Colombo  by 10.02 am. Srilankan service are "OK"... not able to say fantastic or even as good.

Entering into Bandaranaike International Airport, Colombo.
You know when I was there in Colombo airport, I heard thunderous sounds frequently, soon I noticed many fighter jets headed towards the war zone (with LTTE)...
Inside Bandaranaike International Airport, Colombo.
Colombo airport is pretty good...the best thing I noticed is there are many number of Internet Kisoks are placed all around the airport to surf the internet free of cost... u can kill your waiting time for transit... The worst thing is there is no kiosks or place to have drinking water... after a long search I found one water cooler without a glass... then I find one shop at the very end corner of the airport to buy a water bottle of 0.5 liter for the cost of 50 Rupees (enna kodumai sir ithu...)
Its me on the mirror near the emigration check up
The other thing I amused was, seeing the sign board showing the way to smokers room.
Smoker's Room sign board
When I went to see it.. I am not able to enter the room as there was heavy smoke filled the entire room... not able breath and difficult to see as eyes are burning... There is no provision for exhaust.
Killed my time for transit by browsing and roaming around the airport... (No shop for having food in a decent cost... My advice to take bread or biscuits with you.). Then board the flight Srilankan 337 on 6.00pm. but the flight took off by 7.00 pm due to confusion in passenger count. Hostess counted the heads three to four times and sorted it out. Don know what made them confused.

Welcome drink on board...Tamil film "Yaradi ne mogini on screen

Dinner at Sky!!!
Arrived Doha by 10.05 pm. emigration clearance went smoothly.

Emigration check up at Doha International Airport
(Hey why they are stamping on the page which comes first when they open the passport and not the next page of the previous stamping???!!!! Came out of the airport only after 11.00 pm (u have to wait for 20 to 30 minutes for ur baggage :-(

Sign board inside Doha international Airport
Time for collecting your baggage is more than emigration clearance!!!!

Signboard showing the way out from Doha Airport (The way IN for Qatar)
This is the way I came here and now busy with my new job... I ll try to post more on the coming days... Coz I have a own new lappy now :-)
